MAKE PLANS
to visit Philadelphia March 2-9, 2003, as Festival de las Flores brings
fiery lands of passion and bougainvillea in a fiesta of floral color and beauty
to the Philadelphia Convention Center. More than 50 nurseries, florists and horticultural
organizations stage dozens of garden parties and patio settings, exotic garden getaways
and floriferous mountain retreats and explore the latest trends in garden design
and landscape architecture. National and international florists, landscapers, nonprofit
organizations and educational institutions compete each year for the coveted honor
of Best In Show by presenting their fantastic visions to more than 275,000
visitors.
Area businesses open their doors with related festivities. The official Phlower
Power window-decorating contest kicks off Flower Show Week with special discounts
and events offered throughout the city by participating restaurants, hotels, shops,
theaters and museums. A special Bloomin Fun Pass is available
free at the show to help visitors enjoy the delightful tastes, sights and sounds
of Philadelphia.
Learning opportunities and introductions to new gardening products and services
are offered to visitors through lectures, workshops and demonstrations daily. Two
Gardeners Studios in the Main Exhibition Hall feature regional
gardeners who demonstrate hundreds of techniques and tips for home gardeners. The
culinary artistry of celebrity chefs featuring Chef Host Joseph Shilling of the
Art Institute of Philadelphia, School of Culinary Arts, is presented twice daily,
complete with decorating and preparation tips for the gardener cook. And the popular
Garden Tea is an elegant respite from the days activities. Visit www.theflowershow.com
