The AAAS, which is the world's largest nonprofit, general scientific
membership organization, and Subaru of America, Inc. share a vision of advancing
science and serving society. AAAS provides an opportunity to do so at its Annual
Meeting, where attendees can learn firsthand about the latest innovations in more
than 150 topics that impact the lives of people around the world. Topics range from
freshwater conservation to language development to food safety and even to the science
of love and marriage.
Since 1997, Subaru has been a major supporter of the annual AAAS meeting, recognized
as the world's finest showcase for scientific discovery. On February 12-16, 2004,
more than 6,000 international participants are expected to convene in Seattle, Washington,
to discuss advances with scientists and engineers who are on the cutting edge of
new research. In keeping with 156 years of tradition, the AAAS Annual Meeting is
open to professional scientists, engineers, students, writers, teachers, parents,
artists and the just plain curious.
Sponsorship from Subaru helps ensure open access to the meeting. For 2004, Subaru
will:
- make attendance possible for 10 teachers from the Seattle area
- host the grand opening reception
- encourage young scientists by sponsoring the poster session, awards competition
and awards ceremony of the American Junior Academy of Science
Subaru also is helping to underwrite the public science events, family
science activities and a unique forum for discussing science education. In this
way, Subaru takes a lead role in improving scientific literacy and increasing public
engagement with science and technology.
