Shopping for a pre-owned Subaru for the teenagers at home? Want to be sure it meets
the approval of Subaru of America? Look for the Subaru Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle
Program tag. That means the vehicle has been checked, approved, and certified by
Subaru. |
Most shoppers are at least a little skeptical when looking for a used vehicle. They
have questions about vehicle history, reliability, and durability – questions
like, “Who owned this vehicle, and why was it traded in? Is there anything
wrong with it? Has it been in an accident? Does everything work the way it should?
How can I be sure?”
Subaru of America, Inc. has answers to these questions for the pre-owned vehicles
in the Subaru Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Program. Every Subaru in the program must
qualify through a stringent certification process. Then it can wear the program’s
“Certified” tag, which assures buyers that the vehicle has been inspected
and reconditioned. Its history has been checked, and it’s protected by a factory-backed
service plan.
Buying a vehicle from the Subaru CPO Program is like buying a new car with a few
miles on it.
INSPECTED IN DEPTH
Every Subaru CPO vehicle has passed a stringent inspection of 152 components, systems,
and functions. If something at any of these inspection points requires repair, the
work is done before the vehicle can qualify for certification.
Here are some of the program’s 152 inspection points:
Vehicle road test (engine performance, engine warning lights, etc.)
Undercarriage
Fluid levels
Filters
Wiper blades
Lights
Battery
Tires
Tire pressure
Brakes
Audio equipment
Power equipment (including windows, moonroof, and locks)

and truck in operation. A CARFAX vehicle history report tells if the vehicle has
been in an accident, if it has flood damage, or if it was subject to a manufacturer
buyback.
All Subaru CPO vehicles have the CARFAX buyback guarantee, which protects buyers
from unknowingly purchasing a pre-owned vehicle with DMV-reported incidents (salvage,
fire, flood damage, odometer problems, or lemon history).
PROTECTED FOR THE FUTURE
After the sale, Subaru protects its CPO vehicles from mechanical breakdowns with
one of two plans. The length of the protection depends on mileage and the age of
the vehicle at the time of sale. For vehicles less than five model years old and
with 80,000 miles or less on the odometer, standard protection is a 12-month/100,000-mile
Powertrain Plan. For vehicles within the original three-year/36,000-mile manufacturer’s
warranty, protection is by a six-year/60,000-mile Classic Plan. Many coverage upgrades
are available.
For all plans, there’s generally a $50 deductible per repair visit (no matter
how many repairs are done on that visit).
Your Subaru retailer has more information on the CPO Program and would be happy
to show the inventory to you.
